Scope of the Competition
The Innovation and Entrepreneurship Centre for Rural Sustainable Development at Enugu State University and Technology (ESUT), Agbani-Nigeria is organizing an annual regional competition on the design, development, and application of innovative green technologies for local companies, small and medium-sized enterprises (SME’s), entrepreneurs, non-profit groups NGOs, students, and individuals. The competition’s audience will include students and rural residents, as well as representatives from governmental and non-governmental organizations. We will invite local subject matter experts, entrepreneurs, government officials, and development organizations to share their present and future efforts to design and use green technology for rural development. The Ingenious competition is intended to inspire students and researchers and build their enthusiasm for science, engineering, and technology.
About the Event
The Ingenious competition programme aims:
- To discover the next generation of Nigerians that will champion green technological revolution for rural development in Africa
- To raise awareness on the application of green technologies for rural development
- To promote a platform for capacity building for the nation’s teeming youth in this novel area
WHO IS ELIGIBLE
Projects can be developed and submitted by individuals or groups of people. The prize will be awarded per project. Projects can be submitted in the form of detailed reports, ppt presentations, or videos. The priority will be given to projects with presented physical prototypes. Local companies, SMEs, and NGOs may present projects they have already developed, which comply with this competition requirements.

Awards and Competition Categories
- Environmentally-friendly materials or green building materials
Projects or concepts that promote the use of environmentally friendly technology are eligible for this category (green building materials). Use of low-impact materials in the development, installation, and maintenance of projects In addition to being environmentally benign, green materials may also be powerful and long-lasting. Natural soil, bricks, adobe, wood, cork, bamboo, straw, sawdust, etc.) are some examples that can be used in the construction of these structures.

2. Waste-to-energy applications
In order to be included in this category are projects, systems, or concepts that aim to turn waste into usable forms of energy such as electricity, heat and steam. A major goal of the initiative is a reduction in the amount of garbage being dumped in landfills, including municipal solid waste (MSW), biosolids (BSW), medical waste (HMW), and other hazardous materials (HWM). In addition to environmental and economic benefits, the concept should have a positive impact on the local community.

3. Renewable energy implementations
A key goal of this category is to provide more sustainable integrated energy systems in the form of renewable energy in order to enhance rural people’ lives by generating electricity and other kinds of heat and fuel using renewable energy sources such as solar, wind, hydro and wave, thermal etc.

4. Sustainable Agriculture
Innovation in farming practices, systems, or projects that do not harm human or natural systems are sought in this category, as are environmentally friendly technologies, initiatives, and concepts in development that can help or ensure that a growing global population has access to a sufficient supply of healthy, diverse, and safe food.

INSTRUCTIONS TO APPLICANTS
Applicants should submit completed project reports or presentations through the button below. For projects with developed prototypes, the submission can include pre-recorded video files as evidence.

Format for reports and PowerPoint presentations:
- Project title
- Background and motivation
- Description of an idea / working principle
- Experimental/numerical analyses
- Results / outcomes
Submissions can be in any format below
- Power point presentations – should include maximum of 30 slides;
- Video files – video should be minimum 3 minutes long with provided supplementary description
- Reports – Should be on A4 format (word or pdf) and should not be more than 15 pages.
